Featured on the cover is a transmission electron micrograph showing a neutrophil in the midst of exiting a capillary by passing through a narrow gap between two endothelial cells. Krishnamoorthy et al. report that combined aeroallergen and endotoxin exposure in mice leads to formation of enucleated neutrophil cytoplasts in the lung capable of activating dendritic cells to stimulate IL-17 production by naïve T cells. The presence of neutrophil cytoplasts in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from human asthma patients correlates with a more severe neutrophil-predominant form of disease.
