ONLINE COVER Monitoring Anticommensal Antibodies. This month's cover illustration is a scanning electron micrograph of human feces in which individual commensal bacteria have been colorized to highlight the range of different species present. Paun et al. report development of an assay platform to detect serum anticommensal antibodies that correlate with development of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. This assay enabled identification of changes in the titer of anticommensal antibodies that exhibit an HLA-dependent association with progression to type 1 diabetes in prediabetic children with islet autoantibodies.
